The Grand Finale (Whole30 Part V)

I'm writing this update in live time now and I am off the rails!  This is my fourth day off of the diet and one of those days I was sick with some kind of stomach bug.  The reason I think it was a bug is because Seth felt the same exact way right before we went off the diet.

I definitely didn't follow the proper rules for coming off the diet.  The first taste of sugar I actually had was with my lunch on Friday and believe it or not, it was pickled beets.  Friday was also $4 fill your cup at Orange Leaf so I met some friends there in the afternoon.  I kept myself under control though and didn't have a massive cup.  Then that evening I ate some crab rangoon and curry at a local Thai restaurant.  I ended the night with one of my favorites-a milk bubble tea.  Overall, I didn't feel too bad that evening.  The next morning I did notice I had a dry mouth but no other extreme symptoms.

Saturday was miserable.  I went to a five-year-old's birthday party and ate this cake they called "icing cake" (not to mention some other sweets).  It was delicious (reminded me of a cheese cake) but it didn't sit well.  Then we went out to eat.  I had salad bar, which included lots of white bread.  Ugh.  I think it was the bread that did me in.  Seth and I split a meat ball sandwich (like we always used to do).  Here's the kicker-we couldn't even eat all of the sandwich.  Then I had a cup of coffee and a giant cookie.  Next I laid on the couch in misery.

I know some of you are reading this and wondering why on earth I did this to myself.  It's all my fault for not keeping the eating under control and easing my way back in.  Well, I  have a problem.  I go from one extreme to the next.  I'm either all in or all out.  I have a really hard time with happy medium.

And here is the kicker...I can't believe how much money we spent on groceries for the month.  We normally budget about $300 a month.  But during the diet we spent $700.  WOW!

I guess the big question is, would I do another Whole30?  I know you may be surprised of my answer (if you read my other posts) but the answer is yes.  HOWEVER, I think I would probably make it like a whole14 and shorten it.  But that won't be anytime soon.  Even though I didn't have that "ah-ha" moment I think it was good for me.  I learned I can live without sugar, and starchy carbs.
