Due to the popularity of the TriShark Triathlon I signed up for this year's June 2 race way back in December to ensure a spot. But honestly, I was truly hoping to be with child at the time. My wish came true. The Doctor was fine with me running the half marathon a month ago. In fact, I was able to train and even keep my pregnancy a secret from my running partners up until a week before the race. I didn't experience any morning sickness so I was able to make most of our morning runs (minus a few sprint workouts I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up on).

When I asked the Doctor about the June 2 triathlon he just shook his head, smiled, and said I would just be too tired for that. Boy, was he right. I have been able to keep working out but there was no way I would have felt up to training for a triathlon. For some reason (praise the Lord) I breezed through the first trimester, ran the half marathon on April 27 (only five minutes slower than my best time) and then... I became exhausted. Now my runs are less frequent, shorter and much slower. It has been a little disappointing because I really expected it to get hard when I had a big belly to deal with, so it happened much quicker than I anticipated. Oh well, at least I know there's a reason it's so hard to run and I have other forms of exercise I enjoy. I bicycle, do Pilates, swim occasionally, and just started water aerobics.
The TriShark Triathlon this past weekend turned out to be a bit of a disappointing race thanks to mother nature. The swim portion was cancelled due to high levels of e-coli in the water (yuck). So it became a duathlon (run-bike-run). Not that I wished this change on my friends (Seth, Corrinne & Brad participated), but it did make me feel a little better about sitting on the sidelines.
I maned the camera, which ended up being more difficult than I expected. Stay tuned, I will share some photos of the race soon.
